This Saturday was the start of the Renaissance Festival here in Texas. Michael and I have season passes, and had planned to go. But I was experiencing some "all day" morning sickness, so Michael went for a few hours on his own.
And when he came home, he brought me a beautiful present!! A beautiful ivory Fertility Godess! The picture on the side is a Fertility Goddess the same artist carved, but mine is completely ivory colored with no dark spots. It also has long braided hair down the back, and an adorable pregnant tummy! She is truly beautiful!
Similar fertility goddesses have been part of many cultures around the world from before 24,000 B.C!!! What makes the one Michael got me even more neat, is that it's carved out of Fossilized Walrus Tooth! The walrus teeth have been bound up in Alaskan glaciers for thousands of years. And then this artist gets them after parts of the glaciers melt, and he carves them!So not only is the idea of a fertility goddess ancient, so is the material mine is made of! Right now it has a leather cord that lets me wear the little talisman as a necklace, until I can get a chain.
It's a wonderful piece of jewelry to remember this beautiful pregnancy by! I thought it was a really romantic gesture from Michael, since he knew I'd always thought fertility goddesses were beautiful!! And if it brings me some "ancient pregnancy luck" as well...that would be a nice side benefit!!!
Don't I have a sweet husband? :)

Very nice Shan! I love it! I think I've seen that goddess in a statue before, its beautiful!
Good job Michael picking it out!
Love yas!
Thanks, Nicole! The one I found is much more beautiful (if I say so myself) than the one pictured. It's hard to take a clear close up photo of the actual one on our cell phone cameras. LOL. It's quite unique and I'm very happy Shannon liked it. The round pregnant belly on the actually pendant is quite full and lovely... just like Shannon with wee Molly inside. *hugs*
